A modern timber frame extension to a house

This project was to create a modern extension to a house. The extension was to be built on the first floor, above a garage, with a flat roof. Intended to be an office, the clients wanted to incorporate large windows to take advantage of the stunning views of the surrounding valley.
To give the extension a modern look, Douglas cladding with "imitation open joints" was used, in combination with an EPDM flat roof. The windows and finishes (profiles, gutters, etc.) were made of anthracite-coloured aluminium and steel, creating a nice contrast with the wood and reinforcing the modern look.
